7/4/09 Khols, shrimp dinner, Carmel Fest in the rain

I am fixing breakfast when I spy Earl (squirrel ) in the garden digging around one of the plants.  He's eating what he's digging up.  He looks up at me.  I'm not sure what his expression means probably "I know her,  she won't chase me."  He's so cute with his little black eyes and his fluffy tail.

MKate and I decide to brave the rain and check out Khols.  I have to return a bra and buy two more.  Hopefully I'll find a few that actually fit without choaking me in fabric.  It's not as easy as it's been to return the unworn bra ( I couldn't get it on.  Ooops )  But they do take it back.  I have to go up a size but finally find a bra that fits and feels comfortable.  The brand is Olga.  I am losing weight so I get the second bra in a slightly smaller size.  Also I find another amazing Vera Wang night shirt.  I have three that I just love.  You sleep better when you're very comfortable.  It's a pretty blue with a little black bow.

It's raining hard.  Will the concert go on?  Will Carmel Fest be canceled?  We think it has to be canceled.

I want to shop for towels but I know MKate has to get back to work.

After MKate's work,  we make dinner: shrimp,  onions and green peas in coconut oil and real salt.  Yummm.  We serve it with baby potatoes ( flavored by Shwans)  and organic green beans.  This was a delicious meal.  Then we are on our way to Carmel Fest.  It's still raining hard.  But no Carmel Fest will go on.

Every 4th of July Carmel symphony plays a concert at Carmel Fest with lots of fun holiday music.  Then we can see fire works.

How will it be this year.  It's not only raining hard,  it's icy cold out.  Lucky I wore my long sleeved t-shirt and a woolen wrap.  On top of that MKate brought slickers for us.  And they kept us warm as well.  A little cart brought us right up to the stage which made life easier.  We set up our lawn chairs and tried to cover up as much as possible.

I was so cold.  I was grateful that we both had umbrellas.  Without them,  I think we would have had to leave.  So here we are the three muskateers.   Luke is on stage warming up ( or freezing and trying to avoid the rain as much as possible. ) He got soaked when the strong rain came onto the stage.  MKate and I are freezing,  wrapped in layers of clothing and the rain slickers.  Our heads are covered with slicker and we're each holding  our umbrella.  Rain is dripping down on us anyway.  Some people leave.  Others stay like the troopers that they are.

I start laughing.  It's a funny scene.  Being married to Luke has gotten me into some crazy situations before,  but this is one of the craziest.  MK and I eat pop corn and flavored pop corn to keep warm.  We wish we brought the chocolate from home.

Some of the music is inspiring.  I like old favs like The Battle Hymn of the Republic.  The tenor is excellent.

Part of the fun of Carmel Fest is watching people.  Not as many as usual.  But the teenagers are in shorts and not worried about getting wet.  They parade by in groups,  kind of bopping to the music.  The little kids were not as spunky as usual.  They were too cold.  One little girl about 6 or so stood watching the orchestra.  I wondered if she was a little musician to be.  She listened with such rapt attention.

The fire works were wonderful.  Especially the blue lights that burst into the air and fell down like blue snow.  Over the loud speaker came "I'm Proud to Be an American."  I like that song as well.
