7/11/09 Trip through the torents, Movie from hell

O.K.  Luke and I set out for the Mallow Run Winery where Luke will have a rehearsal and performance of 4th of July music.  The Carmel Symphony does this every year.  I don't drink wine and I'm not an out doorsy person,  so it doesn't hold much charm for me.  But . . . . I go to support Luke.

Today the rain was torrential.  MKate's brother said that he'd never seen anything like it.  It was a curtain of rain.  I was praying that they'd cancel but no.  We drove almost blind down 465 .  Car's were pulling off to the side but we kept on.  I was not happy.  I quietly prayed.  We got off 465 and onto 37 S.  We stopped at the Mc D's right off the highway so we could call everyone we could think of and see if the reheasal was canceled.  It wasn't.  The rain continued on--not quite as hard but still dismal and not concert friendly.

Luke got directions from Map Quest.  Or perhaps--Map Quest from Hell.  The directions were to turn off 37 S and onto a road which ended up having nothing to do with Mallow Run.  As we drove along through the rain,  we could see that Mallow Run was no where to be found.  This was a residental area.   We got back on the highway.  Ah there was another street with the same name.  Perhaps this would be it.  But no.  Finally just as we were thinking of stopping for directions,   we saw a sign giving directions to Mallow Run that had nothing to do with the directions that Luke found on line.  We got there.  Getting out of the car,  and walking into the winery in teh pouring rain --under an umbrella--I got wet.  I sat like a soaked rat in the cold winery.

I sat with Donna,  the conductor's wife,  and we chatted for a while.  My throat started to hurt and I could feel a little sinus headache coming on.  I was tired.

At break Luke told me the good news.  The reheasal would be over soon and we could still make a movie.  That was good news.  I called MKate.  The concert will be tomorrow.  Who made this dumb plan?  The winery.

We got home in time for me to make pop corn.  Because we wanted to eat before the movie,  we chose Sasha Baron Choen's new movie even though it only got 1 1/2 stars and a bad review.  Serves us right.  We would have been better off to bring dinner and eat in the movie house.  Hey movie goers that read this blog--DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON THIS MOVIE.

It was ugly,  boring and pornographic all at once.  After the leading character gets naked and does a dance with his penis which talks,  then he gets down on his knees and simulates gay sex--I closed my eyes and so did MKate-- we left soon afterwards.

Instead we went to Boarders-- a fun peaceful place.  We looked at books and ended the evening having decaf and sharing a delicious oatmeal, raisin cookie.
