6/25/09 Btown/the Great Golden Corral Controversy
We get on the road in plenty of time. Well. With Xavier in camp, we don't have to leave Indy before 2 p.m/ So we can enjoy the morning slowly. Yum.
It's perfect driving weather. Hot outside but cool and air-conditioned in the car. The sun is bright and happy. The leaves on the trees are full and vibrant with variations on the color green. We talk lightly. Yesterday, Luke read me the most amazing letter from an old student. He hasn't heard from this man in ages. Now he shared the up and downs of a hard life, made lighter by his up beat, positive attitude and his willingness to work hard against all odds. He credits Luke with giving him encouragement along the way. I cried. Luke and I talk about the letter on the way to Btown. We always talk about Durga(on line pet) and her growing independance. When I go on line to feed her, she's already dressed in the outfit of her choice.
We make our Starbucks run. I've had enough coffee so I have passion iced tea. It's pink and yummy.
Luke goes into the school to get Xavier. He's playing legos with his friend, Valerie. I love legos. Maybe I'll get some for the kids now that Violet doesn't put things in her mouth anymore.
We head for the bookstore. Now I know how to get there the easy way. We look through Pokeman books. These character's are very detailed and they morph into other detailed character's maybe up to three. They have numerical skills that enable them to kill or harm other creatures--as they do this--they often harm or kill themselves. But the good thing is that it develops imagination, math kills, and memory . Luke and I spoil the kids--we gave both of them a yellow pokemon doll that is I quess the main character. Along with a variety of books.
Then came the great controversy. Rain thought she was ready to go back to Golden Corral. We are on our way with Xavier when he says that he doesn't want to eat there. Last week one of Rain's friends--a nurse--said that someone got such severe food poisoning at GC that they had to have their stomach pumped. Now Xavier doesn't want to eat there and really who can blame him.
Rain txs me that they are driving right behind us. We text back and forth for awhile. Luke is also coming to the turn off for the corral from a different direction than the one we're used to.
I text that X doesn't want to eat at the corral. Rain calls me and asks where else we can eat. She suggests Outback. I know it's expensive and L has just spent $100. at the bookstore. We can afford it but . . . why waste . I ask Luke to stop the car and talk to Rain. He won't because he thinks that I think that he can't right himself direction wise. So we end up at the GC, but it's not happy because X isn't happy.
Now . . . . we didn't trust X's instinct. We walk into the restaurant and the air condition is broken. It's like eating in a sauna. I hate being hot when I eat. Violet was hot from day care where they had the kids outside sweating like little piggies. She is not a happy camper. Also she's in a stage where she wants to do everything by herself, even stuff that she's too small to do. She can't quite get her shoes on, but if you try to help her she screams and cries very loudly. In one way it's very good, she's independant. But in another way, it can be hard when she has to put on her shoes.
Trusting kids instincts. It's worth thinking about. In the car on the way home we talk about why Luke wouldn't stop the car. He says that it was the direction thing. I didn't want to talk about it, but I'm thinking about it. More later.
We drive along in the growing darkness which is so peaceful, listening to a radio show about the basketball draft. Luke loves it and I think it's interesting.
I talk to Rain. She's kind of fried. Although she's very tired, V doesn't want to go to sleep.
I also talk to Em. She's coming home from a late night at work and we talk about decisions she's making about her career.
It's strange that Michael Jackson is dead at such a young age. He has three kids and was the sole parent.
